"All of us need to understand the importance of branding. We are CEOs of our own companies: Me Inc. To be in business today, our most important job is to be head marketer for the brand called You." ―Tom Peters

How to hire the right brand agency for you and your business

Perhaps you are ready to move forward with your hiring of a brand agency but not sure what to expect during the process.

The best brand design process is a collaborative one between you and your designer.

An experienced brand design agency will understand the process of creating a successful brand, and will have many hundreds of logos and brand designs in their portfolio. Taking advantage of their professional experience ensures a quality outcome with less stress - unfortunately (as with most things) you get what you pay for when it comes to branding.

Brand design is a key investment in your success - and it is essential to get it right.

Here is a step-by-step process for when you call the brand agency to have them work on your design.

Step 1: The Initial Meeting
During the initial meeting with the brand agency, this is more of an informative gathering where the client and brand agency discuss all the details of the project. These details can include context, background, previous experiences, goals, motivation, and brand positioning. From here, future marketing strategies are discussed to assess whether an ongoing relationship and brand guidelines are needed. Terms of payment are finalized before work commences.

Step 2: Briefing and Research
Once the deposit has been received, the brand agency team will gather all the information from the initial meeting and conduct further research into audiences, markets, and competitors. A brief will be put together that includes elements such as - project details, deliverables, project background, tone of voice, anything to be included or excluded from design, positioning, marketing, audience, and deadlines.

Step 3: Ideas and Concepts
The brand agency will now begin the process of designing concepts and ideas that answer the brief. The mood boards, or design concepts, will be different from one another and allow discussion as to what is working and what is not. This will enable the team to begin moving more in the right direction of the project. The concepts and ideas will be presented in the context of a finding a creative starting point.

Stage 4: The Initial Presentation
The initial presentation between client and brand agency will set the tone for the rest of the project. A discussion will take place as the client sees the designs and concepts for the first time, allowing the team to identify which concepts are going to work best for the overall branding. Whether the client loves the concepts or requests major changes, the goal here is that everyone leaves the presentation with a better understanding of the final result. Having a clear idea how to complete the project is necessary to making it to the next stage and will ensure in the end the client is satisfied.

Stage 5: Development of Design
Now that everyone is on the same page, the development of the design becomes more in focus. Once the development reaches a particular point, the design is then emailed to the client for further feedback. Changes will be made to make sure the client is satisfied with the progress and sent back for review again. This process will continue until the final design has been mutually agreed upon and signed off on.

Stage 6: The Delivery of the Design
All of the artwork is handed over to the client in printed version and file formats. The client has complete ownership of all the art files.

When it comes to brand design, now you should have a better idea what should you expect from a professional brand agency. These are just an outline of the common stages, and many can change depending on the unique details and the requirements of the project brief.
